Rip Twitter Trend As Musk Demands Staff To Work Long Hours | OneVA Hub

#RIPTwitter Trends as Musk Demands Staff to “Work Long Hours”

Just last week, Twitter took the internet by storm with the trending hashtags #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter. The turmoil occurred when Elon Musk, the multi-billionaire who bought Twitter for $44 billion last October, sent a letter to Twitter workers about the company’s “cultural reset”. He even gave them a 48-hour deadline to decide whether they want to stay or not.

The Controversy

Hundreds of Twitter’s employees have reportedly resigned following Musk’s ultimatum that they work long hours at high intensity. The change which was coined as “extremely hardcore” made many Twitter users afraid of the platform’s future because the mass resignation meant Twitter’s multiple systems are now underserviced.

Amid the controversy, Musk seemed undisturbed in his recent tweets and even said that he is not that worried about people leaving his company because the best ones are staying. However, it has been reported that Twitter has reached out to some of the employees it fired because the management apparently just “realized their work or expertise was needed”.

The Result

Currently, it is unclear how many employees remain working in the platform. Musk is believed to have fired a lot of senior leaders, board members, and human resources employees during the initial stages of his onboarding. Some reports say from 7,000 employees, Twitter is now down to 2,000-2,500.

Although many Twitter users fear of the platform’s status, Musk revealed that Twitter is now more alive than ever. He tweeted about the record-breaking number of logins in the past days coming from people who want to check if the #RIPTwitter trend is indeed real.

The Takeaway

With the closing of some of its offices, the resignation of some key employees, and the abrupt change in leadership, what is your takeaway in this whole Twitter situation? Technological innovations can indeed be unstable. Even though it’s considered as one of the top social media sites today, Twitter is still unable to dodge the bullet. It has apparently become at risk with the coming of a new leader who wishes to introduce a new culture into the workforce.
